Assisted in guiding students in the enzymatic hydrolysis of vegetable oils using plant-derived lipase (Ricinus communis L.), focusing on reaction mechanisms and key process parameters.

Plant Design Project

Developed a fully integrated chemical plant design converting non-edible oilseeds (Pongamia pinnata, Calophyllum inophyllum, Schleichera oleosa) into biodiesel and bioactive isolates (karanjin, pongamol, xanthone, kumarin). Delivered complete end-to-end engineering from conceptual design, PFDs, and utility systems to waste management and economic feasibility. Designed modular extraction and stationary processing units for degumming, steam refining, and transesterification, supported by utilities (water 26.3 t/h, steam 1 t/h, electricity 180 kW) with by-product integration to minimize waste. Achieved 13,750 t/year production capacity with NPV $135,760, IRR 29.6%, and 4.3 year payback, confirming strong technical and economic viability.

Workshop Coordinator Regional Symposium on Chemical Engineering (RSCE 2024), Institut Teknologi Bandung Project Base

- Coordinated all pre-event activities, including Focus Group Discussions on Decarbonization, Carbon Trading, and Business Development, ensuring smooth execution and alignment with event objectives.
- Organized and executed the ASEAN Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) Network 2024 Symposium, facilitating collaboration among 42+ companies and featuring 25+ industry experts as keynote speakers.
- Supported the main symposium segment that featured 400 national and international scientific figures, including guests from the Netherlands, Malaysia, Philippines, Australia, Japan, Thailand, and the United Kingdom.

- Conducted a comprehensive feasibility study on producing 99.5% purity fuel-grade bioethanol from sugarcane molasses, integrating waste-to-energy solutions that convert by-products into biogas and fertilizer, aligning with the company’s sustainability goals.
- Performed mass balance calculations for aerobic and anaerobic fermentation processes using Excel, achieving 98% accuracy compared to actual plant operations.
- Proposed two strategic recommendations to optimize mass balance, improving bioethanol production efficiency and operational consistency.
- Designed a distillation column for the refinery section using Aspen HYSYS, producing results that closely matched the plant’s operational data.

Thesis Project: Karanjin Isolation from the Oil Extraction Process of Malapari Seeds

Institut Teknologi Bandung Project Base

Led experimental research on karanjin extraction and isolation from Pongamia pinnata (malapari) seed oil, an underutilized non-edible plant with high antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer potential. Optimized oil recovery using Soxhlet extraction with n-hexane (~22% yield) and identified ECC-1 as the most effective isolation method. Confirmed compound identity via TLC-densitometry (Rf ~0.55–0.60, AUC 23,882.5) and FTIR spectroscopy, revealing lactone C=O (1720–1730 cm⁻¹), methoxy C–O–C, and aromatic bending (~750 cm⁻¹). Delivered an efficient, semi-selective pathway for producing high-purity karanjin, supporting its development for bioactive and biofuel applications.
