We built and presented “WANI-PYRO: Digitalisasi Pemberdayaan Petani dalam Konversi Limbah Pertanian menjadi Energi Terbarukan melalui Pirolisis Cerdas Teroptimasi Machine Learning di Provinsi Jawa Tengah.” This project transforms overlooked rice husk waste into high-value bio-oil through Catalytic Fast Pyrolysis (CFP), while empowering local farmers via an integrated digital supply chain and smart decision-support system. The innovation lies in combining machine learning to optimize pyrolysis yield predictions—supported by Pareto analysis and multicollinearity heatmaps that reveal key variable interactions influencing processing outcomes. Meanwhile, the technical development also covered the pretreatment and posttreatment of bio-oil to improve its quality, particularly through hydrotreating to reduce oxygenates and enhance fuel-grade performance.

We built and presented ALFRED – Algae-based Low-carbon Floating Refinery Emission Disposal, a modular floating CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) system specifically designed for offshore oil and gas operations. ALFRED integrates Direct Air Capture (DAC), marine microalgae cultivation, biogas generation, and co-firing into a seamless, closed-loop process aimed at reducing carbon emissions directly at offshore facilities. The system begins with DAC acting as a carbon “sponge” to absorb atmospheric CO₂, which is then supplied to fast-growing marine microalgae species such as Tetraselmis suecica and Nannochloropsis sp.—organisms selected for their high productivity in Indonesia’s saline ocean environment. The cultivated biomass is processed through anaerobic digestion to produce biogas, which is further utilized in co-firing systems and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units to generate electricity and heat for the platform itself. This approach not only reduces offshore carbon emissions but also promotes energy self-sufficiency, offering a scalable and sustainable solution for decarbonizing marine oil and gas infrastructure.
