Intern: Pengembangan Translasi Product Life Science

intern at PT Bio Farma Persero in the Division of Life Science Translational Product Development. Biochemistry played a significant role in the research processes, with fields such as microbial biochemistry and the engineering of nucleic acids and proteins being crucial to understanding vaccine development. The development process involved several stages and laboratories, including preparation, cultivation, purification, formulation, and quality control. Each week, we interns rotated through different lab sections to gain a comprehensive understanding of each process.
My specific project during the internship focused on the purification stage, where I worked on DNA isolation from bacterial cell cultures. I carried out processes ranging from cell lysis using alkaline compounds to purification to obtain plasmid DNA. The primary focus of the research was optimizing the elution buffer ratio in the anion exchange chromatography process to achieve effective DNA purification, with the DNA being eluted into distinct fractions. This optimization is intended to support the subsequent mRNA vaccine development efforts carried out by PT Bio Farma Persero.

The Education and Profession Division or Cation is responsible for providing and disseminating knowledge of biochemistry, both in academics and in enhancing awareness and hardskills for the entire biochemistry community. This is carried out to fulfill the role of CREBs as a platform for developing potential, offering and accommodating ideas, and fostering collaboration in the field of biochemistry professions for its members. CREBs or the Community of Research and Education in Biochemistry, is a student organization that serves as a professional association for biochemistry students within IPB.
